Shade Canopies - Much More for Far Less
The shade cover industry is relatively new in the United States, having been established in the Southern Hemisphere (Australia and South Africa) initially. The initial designs offered in the United States were essentially copies of structures already proven in the Australian and South African communities. The first structures erected in the United States were in Dallas, Texas in the late 1980s by a South African expatriate. Until that time, awnings (small canopies or covers generally attached to a building façade) were the only shade structures in use.

Within a few years, new and used car dealers noted that, while the new fabric structures increased sales by providing a better dealership experience, the canopies eliminated the devastating costs of hail storms. Properly constructed, the shade covers virtually eliminated the possibility of a hail stone striking a car's surface. Car dealers throughout the Hail Belt of the Midwest, encouraged by their insurers, rushed to cover their inventory of vehicles in anticipation of spring and summer thunderstorms.

Today, tensioned fabric structures a.k.a. shade canopies are found throughout the United States in a plethora of industries - attracting customers; protecting people, equipment and inventory; creating an artistic statement. As technology and materials improve, costs drop and new uses are discovered.
