1./ What do you mean by "Low Maintenance"?
When we say "low maintenance", we really mean it. You don't have to do very much to keep your SouthernShade Solutions canopy looking bright and new.
To clean, just hose off
It's a permanent structure, so you don't have to take it down
The fabric doesn't warp, so you don't have to adjust it.
The amazing fabric we use is guaranteed not to sag, tear, stain or fade at all for at least five years (except for red or burgundy, whose warranty is 3 years - see Warranty.) Of course, you will need to remove anything that lands on it rather than letting it stay there. You also cannot store anything on top of it, puncture it, or hang anything from the fabric.
2./ Will tree sap stain the fabric?
No, this fabric does not stain. If sticky sap is hard to hose off, wet down (from both sides of the fabric, wetting the top first). Use a spray nozzle if necessary.
You will be happy to know that in most cases, Mother Nature does all the work for you when it rains.

3./ Your shades cost more than the kits at my local home improvement store. How can you claim to be less expensive?
A very big difference between the tent kits and our shade canopies is that the kits are temporary structures and SouthernShade Solutions structures are permanent. By permanent, we mean that our canopies are intended to be left up for years, through all seasons, and not suffer significant wear and tear. Temporary tents and umbrellas are intended to taken down immediately after each use. Tents and umbrellas cannot be left up for extended periods of time (much less year-round) or they will suffer deterioration and damage.
If you would like to learn more about how our fabric canopies compare to other shade options, see Cost Comparisons.
4./ How can a fabric structure be considered permanent? How long do they last?
Permanent means it is a structure that is installed with the intention of being left up for years. With proper care, SouthernShade Solutions canopies are designed to show no significant signs of wear for at least five years. That means the canopy may begin showing some slight fading after that time, but is still expected to look great and stay sturdy for at least another five to ten years after that.

5./ How can fabric protect my car from hail damage?
Our incredible shade cloth gives total hail protection. Hail cannot penetrate it. Hal cannot dent it or damage it at all. Because it is impervious to hail, anything you have under it will be absolutely protected. To get an idea of the resiliency of fabric hail protection, see the video on one of our other products, Hail Netting.
In fact, our shade fabric is the best choice for hail protection because bounces right off without hurting the fabric at all. Your SouthernShade Solution canopy will look as fresh and lovely after the hail storm as it did before!

6./ Covering an entire playground seems extravagant. Why should we consider this?
Daycare and schools use playgrounds during the day, mostly during the "danger" hours of 10:00am to 3:00pm. Skin cancer is a very real risk, and medical researchers have proven a very real link between sun exposure and skin cancer. Children are just as susceptible as adults.
Schools are often not allowed to make children apply sunscreen because of the risk of allergic sensitivities. (Besides, can you imagine trying to slather sunscreen on 25 wiggly kindergarteners?) By offering UV-blocking shade over the playground, you reduce the children's risk of excessive sun exposure in a very real way. You also reduce their risk of sun stroke and heat exhaustion.
Besides, with shade they can slide on the slide without burning their backsides!

7./ No other businesses like mine offer shaded parking - why should I?
Precisely because your competition doesn't. All-weather shade cloth was only introduced in the US in 1990, so it is still a new and growing industry. You can get the edge on your competition by being the first to offer shaded parking. If most of your customers visit your establishment in the middle of the day, they will definitely appreciate having the opportunity to park in the shade. When they visit your competition, they will certainly notice the difference!
With SouthernShade Solutions canopies, you can be assured of keeping an advantage over the competition even if they do eventually offer shaded parking. Not only are our canopies the most attractive option out there, our canopies are made to keep their good looks and their useful function for many years.

8./ I want hail protection for my business vehicles, but I don't need anything fancy - what else can you offer?
Where appearance is not a concern, we offer basic Hail Netting.
9./ Are SouthernShade Solution canopies waterproof?
They are Water-Resistant. They shed 90% of rainfall. There are long-lived waterproof fabrics that can be used on some of the Fabric Architecture USA products we offer, but they are very heavy and expensive, and so are not offered on most of our standard products. However, should you like to learn more about this option, just contact us and we will be happy to talk with you about it!
For those of you who like to sit outside and watch the rain, sitting under a SouthernShade Solutions canopy is like sitting under a heavily leafed tree.
10./ My city just passed a smoking ban. I need to move my business's smoking area outside. What are my options?
We've got you covered! Our canopies can offer you a cost effective, attractive way to offer an outside smoking area. To learn more, see our page on Employee Areas. To compare your different structural alternatives, see Cost Comparisons.

11./ Can grass grow under the shade canopies?
Yes, especially the where the grass will not be shaded all day. Our shade cloth does not block all sunlight. Depending on the color, the shade factor runs between 73% to 97%. The protection against damaging UV rays is higher than the shade factor. The UVA and UVB blocking factors run between 90.5% to 96.2%. 12./ Are you claiming your shade canopies can prevent skin cancer?
We can help you reduce your risk of skin cancer, because reducing your exposure to harmful UV rays in turn reduces your risk of contracting skin cancer. Research has shown a direct correlation between unprotected sun exposure and skin cancer. To learn more about this, Click Here.
